Ground conditions may postpone BG Gauntlet

The BG Gauntlet, a 5K of tough terrain and challenging obstacles, is returning for its fifth year Saturday at Phil Moore Park, 7101 Scottsville Road in Alvaton.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., with the first heat at 8:30 a.m. and the last at 10 a.m. The cost is $75. In case of rain, the BG Gauntlet will be postponed until July 16. For more information, visit bggauntlet.com.

“Due to flooding we may be forced to postpone it until next Saturday. We’ll make that decision at noon Friday,” said BG Gauntlet Coordinator Donna Webster. “Check our website for up-to-date information.”

The event is sponsored by the Marines and Kight Home Center. Thoroughbred Contracting and Cross Fit Old School will build the 20 obstacles.

“We construct quite a few obstacles for this race,” Webster said. “We have 500 to 750 participants each year. They like the stuff that challenges them.”

Proceeds will benefit the Ethan Foundation, whose mission is to raise awareness and promote a proactive, healthy lifestyle for youths.

The builders have changed the course from what has been done in the past, Webster said.

“It’s almost like a motorcross path where the entire run will be on dirt. It’s a lot different than previous years,” she said. “It’s been on grass. We expect it to be more of a challenge for people to run on dirt.”
