Tigers’ Cline wins first start of season in home finale
Campbellsville left-hander Dexter Cline (Greenwood Class of 2013) made the most of his first start this season on Wednesday, earning the win in a 10-4 non-conference victory over Union.
Cline, a junior who has pitched solely in relief this year, turned in his longest outing of the season against the Bulldogs. Cline pitched five innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out two. Cline improved his record to 3-0 this season in leading the Tigers to victory in the final regular-season home game.
Campbellsville (27-11) is back in action Friday at Mid-South Conference rival Pikeville.

Spalding freshman third baseman Matt Harper (Logan County Class of 2015) helped the Golden Eagles break open a close game against visiting Thomas More on Wednesday.
Harper cashed in on a bases-loaded opportunity in the bottom of the seventh inning, ripping a three-run double to spark a four-run rally to help Spalding pull away for a 9-5 victory. Harper later scored in the inning.
Spalding (19-9) returns to conference play Friday with a home game against St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Greenville College (Ill.) at Derby City Field in Louisville.

Bethel (Tenn.) sophomore catcher Emmi Thurmond (Franklin-Simpson Class of 2014) chipped in with a pair of hits in the Lady Wildcats’ 21-9 road softball win against non-conference foe Williams Baptist (Ark.) on Wednesday.
Thurmond finished the day 2 for 5 with a run scored in the win, as Bethel completed the doubleheader sweep.
Bethel (24-15) next plays Friday at home against Southern States Athletic Conference rival Faulkner (Ala.) in a doubleheader.
