No pain in this piano workshop

Your former piano teacher might not approve, but it is possible to learn to play the piano without reading a lot of music. If you’ve ever wondered how it’s done, then mark Monday May 10, 2010, in your calendar. That’s the day Bernie Schweickart will be at Bowling Green High School to teach “Piano Lessons for Busy People”.

Schweickart’s technique reveals how the pros play. Himself a professional pianist, he knows all the piano players tricks of the trade.

According to Schweickart, this method differs from traditional piano studies in that “While most piano teachers stress precision and discipline in piano playing, I stress having fun, and while precision is vital for classical music, this method is most suitable for playing pop music of all kinds…from Pop to Gospel to Blues and Boogie Woogie.”

Absolutely no musical background is required. Students will learn how to use chords instead of the traditional note-for-note music reading. They will learn to use sheet music in a way that is extremely simple, and will learn many of the shortcuts that the pros use to enhance their playing.
