Pennington helps No. 14 Wildcats down No. 12 Florida
Kentucky senior Beck Pennington (Greenwood Class of 2012) played a big role in the No. 24-ranked Wildcats’ 4-1 men’s tennis win over No. 12 Florida on Saturday at the Boone Tennis Complex in Lexington.
Pennington won his No. 3 singles match, beating Florida’s Chase Perez-Blanco 6-3-6-1.
Before that, Pennington teamed with Enzo Wallart at No. 1 doubles. The Wildcats’ duo, ranked No. 27 in the country, beat Florida’s Alfredo Perez and Johannes Ingildsen – ranked No. 6 nationally – 7-6 (7-4).
Kentucky (14-8 overall, 5-4 Southeastern Conference) is back in action April 9 at home against Alabama. It will be the Wildcats’ final home match and Senior Day for Pennington.

Bellarmine freshman Bryan Cummings (South Warren Class of 2016) took second place in the men’s triple jump at Saturday’s Bellarmine Invitational in Louisville.
Cummings produced a jump of 13.37 meters (43 feet, 10.5 inches) to take second for the host Knights.
Bellarmine will be back in action this weekend at both the Hilltopper Relays hosted by Western Kentucky and the Sea Ray Relays hosted by Tennessee.

Eastern Kentucky junior Ciara Scott (Bowling Green Class of 2014) tallied a seventh-place finish in the women’s 1,500-meter run at Saturday’s Oliver Nikoloff Open hosted by the University of Cincinnati.
Scott clocked a time of 4:41.27 in the 1,500, and also placed 14th in the 800 meters (2:18.41).
Northern Kentucky junior Keith Prive (Greenwood Class of 2014) finished 10th in the men’s 1,500 with a time of 4:01.79.
Both Eastern Kentucky and Northern Kentucky are slated to compete in the Hilltopper Relays hosted by Western Kentucky.

Memphis junior Lauren Wheeler (Bowling Green Class of 2014) sliced another chunk of time off her personal best in the 5,000 meters at Saturday’s Joey Haines Invitational hosted by Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Wheeler, who dropped 19 seconds off her best time earlier this season, cut 15 more seconds in the 5,000 with a time of 18:35.57 to finish 14th overall.
Wheeler’s former high school teammate, Austin Peay junior Sarah-Emily Woodward (Bowling Green Class of 2014), posted a 10th-place finish in the 10,000 meters (40:28.10).
Memphis is back in action starting Wednesday at the Georgia Bulldogs Decathlon/Heptahlon. Austin Peay will be competing in the Hilltopper Invitational hosted by Western Kentucky on Friday and Saturday.

Campbellsville senior Clayton Embry (Butler County Class of 2012) scored a fourth-place finish in the men’s hammer throw during Saturday’s Centre College Invitational in Danville.
Embry’s throw measured 48.83 meters, and his finish helped the Tigers take third in the men’s team standings.
Also for Campbellsvill’s men, freshman Nick Mabe (Barren County Class of 2016) posted an eighth-place finish in the high jump (1.79 meters).
In the women’s meet, Campbellsville freshman Savannah Gregory (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2016) made a strong track debut with a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters (1:01.96) that was good for a National Christian College Athletic Association championship qualifying spot. Gregory also ran a leg on Campbellsville’s 1,600 relay that took fifth in 4:10.11.
Berea senior Megan Hale (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2013) ran a leg on her team’s sixth-place 1,600 relay (4:18.73).
Campbellsville and Berea are back in action Friday and Saturday for the University of the Cumberlands Invitational.

Transylvania freshman Gunnar Eaton (Barren County Class of 2016) turned in a sixth-place finish in the men’s javelin at Saturday’s Hanover College Invitational in Hanover, Ind.
Eaton finished with a throw of 43.72 meters.
Brescia freshman Brandon Stacker (South Warren Class of 2016) ran a leg on the Bearcats’ 400-meter relay that earned a seventh-place finish in 46.13 seconds.
Transylvania is back in action Friday and Saturday at the University of the Cumberlands Invitational. Brescia competes Saturday in the DePauw (Ind.) Outdoor Invitational.

Kentucky Wesleyan freshman Taleia Mason (Logan County Class of 2016) picked up a pair of scoring finishes at Saturday’s Margaret Simmons Invitational hosted by Murray State.
Mason finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 27.59 seconds, and was third in the 100 in 13.11.
Kentucky Wesleyan will be back in action Friday and Saturday at the Hilltopper Invitational hosted by Western Kentucky.

Brescia freshman Allison Holeman (South Warren Class of 2016) helped the Lady Bearcats win the Country Oaks Tournament on Saturday in Washington, Ind.
Brescia combined for a 710 to win the three-team tournament by 28 strokes.
Holeman finished with a two-round total of 187 (93-94) to provide a scoring finish for the Lady Bearcats.
Brescia is back in action Friday for a match-play event against Kentucky Wesleyan at the Pearl Club in Owensboro.
