UK’s Pennington, Wallart beat top-10 doubles team

University of Kentucky senior Beck Pennington (Greenwood Class of 2012) teamed with Enzo Wallart to knock off the ninth-ranked men’s doubles team in the country on Thursday at the Boone Tennis Center in Lexington.

Pennington and Wallart, Kentucky’s No. 1 doubles team, beat Auburn’s Max Hinnisdaels and Conner Huertas 6-3 in their match. Kentucky, ranked No. 17 in the nation, earned a 6-1 win over the Tigers.

“I’m glad how Enzo and I are finally starting to play our game in doubles again,” Pennington said in a news release. “This was another good performance with the team and we’re already getting back on the saddle for Saturday against Mississippi State.”

In singles action, Pennington also won at No. 3 for the Wildcats. He outlasted Huertas for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 1-0 (13-11) decision.

Kentucky will host Mississippi State on Saturday.

Eastern Kentucky junior Jared Brown (South Warren Class of 2014) helped the Colonels to a 13th-place finish Thursday at the Bob Sitton Invitational in Irving, Texas.

Brown fired a three-round total of 223 (75-75-73) for EKU’s second-best individual performance on the par-71, 6,733-yard TPC Four Seasons course. Brown finished tied for 38th overall.

The Colonels finished two shots behind Western Kentucky in the team standings. Arkansas State won with an 852.

EKU returns to action starting Sunday in the three-day Kingsmill Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.

Ole Miss freshman guard Bree Glover (Glasgow Class of 2016) made the most of limited minutes during the Rebels’ 78-75 loss to Grambling on Thursday in the first round of the WNIT in Oxford, Miss.

Glover played just four minutes for Ole Miss (17-14), but tallied two rebounds, a block and an assist.

Union College freshman catcher Pudge Morgan (Glasgow Class of 2016) had a solid day at the plate in the Bulldogs’ 8-5 home win over Viterbo (Wis.) on Thursday.

Morgan was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to pace Union (12-10).

The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday with a home doubleheader against Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Bluefield (Va.) State.

Olney Central (Ill.) College sophomore third baseman Ryan Hinkley (Glasgow Class of 2014) delivered a pair of RBIs in Thursday’s 10-0 win over Frontier Community College.

Hinkley finished the game 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Olney Central (14-4) will host Frontier Community College for a doubleheader on Saturday.

Trevecca Nazarene sophomore third baseman Bailey Alexander (Glasgow Class of 2014) was a bright spot in the Trojans’ doubleheader loss Thursday against host Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.).

In Game 1, Alexander was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in a a 5-3 loss.

Alexander had one of only two Trevecca Nazarene hits in the nightcap, a 1-0 loss to Lincoln Memorial.

Trevecca Nazarene (10-13) is back in action March 22, hosting Southern Indiana for a doubleheader.
