All-Star nods go to several baseball players with area ties
Former Western Kentucky star right-handed pitcher Andrew Edwards has been added to the Pacific Coast League roster for the Triple-A All-Star Game scheduled for July 13 at BB&T Park in Charlotte, N.C.
Edwards, picked in the 19th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Player Draft by the Kansas City Royals following his junior season at WKU, has thrived in a relief role for the Omaha Storm Chasers – Kansas City’s top minor league affiliate – this season. In 15 appearances for the Storm Chasers, the 6-foot-6 right-hander has posted a 4.03 ERA in 22 1/3 innings with 29 strikeouts. Edwards has been on a role for Omaha, allowing just one earned run over his last six appearances spanning 8 2/3 innings.
This season, split between Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas before his promotion, the 24-year-old Edwards has made 25 appearances totaling 40 1/3 innings. He’s 0-1 overall with a 2.45 ERA and 52 strikeouts. Edwards, originally from Calvert City in Marshall County, has posted a 11.69 strikeouts per nine innings ratio this season.
Making his first-ever all-star appearance as a professional, Edwards replaces fellow Omaha righty Brooks Pounders, who was promoted to the Royals and made his MLB debut on July 5. Edwards is currently the Storm Chasers’ lone representative at the Triple-A All-Star Game.

Former Bowling Green standout Jack Snodgrass (BGHS Class of 2006) has earned his first spot in the Atlantic League All-Star Game.
Snodgrass, a left-handed starting pitcher in his first season playing for the Long Island Ducks, landed a spot in the All-Star Game in his first season playing in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Snodgrass ranks second in the league with 85 strikeouts in 14 starts, and has posted a 6-6 record with a 3.79 ERA in 78 1/3 innings. Ten of his 14 outings have been quality starts, and he’s gone at least six innings in 11 starts while striking out five or more batters in 11 starts this season. In his last outing on July 5, Snodgrass picked up the win after allowing just one earned run in six innings. He struck out five.
A 28-year-old, the 6-foot-6 Snodgrass pitched collegiately at Austin Peay before being selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 27th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Player Draft. Snodgrass last pitched in affiliated ball in 2015 for the Giants’ Triple-A Sacramento River Cats and Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels.
Snodgrass is one of seven Long Island players to earn Liberty Division All-Star honors. The game is scheduled for July 13 at Clipper Magazine Stadium, home of the Lancaster Barnstormers, in Lancaster, Pa.

Rising Western Kentucky redshirt junior Harrison Scanlon has been selected to the Florida Collegiate Summer League All-Star Game set for this weekend (July 9) at Sanford Memorial Stadium in Sanford, Fla.
Scanlon, listed as a first baseman/outfielder for the Leesburg (Fla.) Lightning, is batting .345 with two home runs and 18 RBIs this season. Scanlon, a Louisville native, has also totaled seven doubles and a triple in 25 games for the Lightning. Scanlon is slated to start at first base for the North Division All-Stars.
This past season at WKU, Scanlon batted .272 with two home runs and 25 RBIs while starting 43 games for the Hilltoppers. Scanlon also had three doubles and a triple in 162 at-bats at WKU in 2016.
