Glasgow man accused of burglary, assault

A Glasgow man is charged with burglary after Barren County sheriff’s deputies said he broke into a woman’s home at 81 Tick Ridge Road and assaulted her.

At about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff’s office responded to the home after the woman called and said Anthony Stewart, 41, of Glasgow, had broken in to her home, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. The woman was assaulted before she could run to a neighbor’s house to call 911. She told an emergency operator that Stewart was armed with a handgun.

Deputy Eric Bull responded to the home and found Stewart inside. Stewart was arrested without incident, according to the release. A handgun was found hidden in the back yard of the residence. Stewart is charged with first-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, menacing, fourth-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence.

Stewart admitted hiding the gun before the deputy’s arrival, according to the release. Stewart was taken to the Barren County Detention Center in Glasgow, where he was being held Wednesday morning without bond.
