Western Kentucky high jumper Katie Isenbarger has qualified for the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The graduate senior cleared 1.84 meters Saturday afternoon at the NCAA East Regionals in Lexington to secure her spot in the finals.
“Katie was phenomenal, she did what she needed to do today,” WKU coach Brent Chumbley said in a news release. “Clean, 4/4, on jumps through 1.84 (meters) and that’s all it took for her to secure her spot in Eugene in a few weeks.”
Isenbarger is the first Hillopper to qualify for the outdoor women’s high jump championships in program history. The native of Zionsville, Indiana is the first to qualify for NCAA Outdoor Finals for WKU since 2019.
Isenbarger is also the first Hilltopper to qualify for both indoor and outdoor championships during their collegiate career since Oliver Alexandre (2018-19).
In six meets, Isenbarger took first place in five, breaking the program record set by herself on multiple occasions. Isenbarger cleared 1.88 meters at the Music City Challenge on April 27. That mark leads Conference USA and is the eighth best in NCAA DI.
Isenbarger is one of four athletes from the Bluegrass State to qualify for high jump finals.
The NCAA Outdoor Championships are set for June 5-8 at the historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon Isenbarger is slated to compete on Saturday, June 8 at 4 p.m. CT.
