Tops tied for 10th after two rounds at Argent Classic

The Western Kentucky men’s golf team concluded day two tied for 10th the Argent Financial Classic on Monday in Chaudrant, Louisiana.

WKU shot a 5-over par 293 on the day in the second round of the Argent Financial Classic. Freshman Rafe Blankenship once again led the Tops in action Monday, posting an even-par 72. The Scottsville native is ninth on the leaderboard and two strokes out of the top five.

“Today was definitely a day where we didn’t have it and had to tough things out to keep it together,” WKU coach Austin King said in a news release. “We’ve got some adjustments to make and I’m proud of the fight the guys had and hopefully we can clean things up for the final round tomorrow and make a last day jump up the leaderboard.”

WKU’s Nic Hofman, after posting a 2-over 74 is still in the running to break into the top 25, two strokes out of 21st on the leaderboard. Stephen Warren was the story of the day for the Tops after skyrocketing up the board 22 spots in the second round. Using an even-par 72 second round, the senior moved up the leaderboard 22 spots and is currently tied for 45th.

The Tops totaled 12 birdies in the second round. Blankenship led the way with four, and an eagle on his 10th hole.

Freshman Trevor Drew also improved for WKU, shaving two strokes off of his first-round score, shooting a 3-over 75 in the second round.

WKU currently holds a lead over Conference USA teams Middle Tennessee and Jacksonville State.

The Tops will be back in action for the final round Tuesday morning. The times and pairings have yet to be announced.
