Three WKU programs earn CUSA sports academic team awards

- Western Kentucky senior Annah Hopkins was named a Conference USA Spirit of Service award recipient for the fall 2023-24 season.
Three Western Kentucky sports programs have earned the Conference USA Team Academic Award, the league announced Thursday afternoon.
The award is given to the team in each conference-sponsored sport with the highest GPA for the academic year.
Both golf programs and the soccer program earned the honor this year.
WKU women’s soccer had a 3.71 grade point average for the 2023-24 academic year. The Hilltoppers had 17 student-athletes record a 4.00 GPA in the fall and had a 3.73 GPA in the spring as a team. Several Hilltoppers celebrated academic success with various awards throughout 2023-24. In the fall, six were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District and four earned CUSA All-Academic Team honors. Annah Hopkins was named the CUSA Spirit of Service award winner for the fall and was named the university’s Ogden Foundation Scholar, WKU’s top undergraduate award. Lily Rummo was named WKU Athletics’ Female Graduate Scholar of the Year at the annual TOPSYs Awards.
The Lady Topper golf program maintained a 3.81 grade point average for the 2023-24 academic year. Head coach Adam Gary’s team is no stranger to academic success as four Lady Toppers were named to the CUSA All-Academic Team in the spring. Nine players in the program boasted a GPA of 3.5 or higher, leading to all 10 members of the team being named to the CUSA Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Seven Lady Toppers were also named to the CUSA President’s list in the spring. Sophomore Averi Cline was named the CUSA Spirit of Service award winner for the spring along with winning the Female Community Outreach award at the 2024 TOPSY’s.
The WKU men’s golf program made strides academically under first year head coach Austin King. The team earned a 3.42 GPA for the year. This was capped off by Owensboro native Stephen Warren being named to the CUSA All-Academic team after earning a perfect 4.0. The squad had six players earn honors and three named to the CUSA President’s List. The Tops had 10 members on the CUSA Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
The team was also honored at this year’s TOPSY awards after being named the Male Scholar Team of the Year.
