Sullivan named Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week
Western Kentucky softball pitcher Kennedy Sullivan posted another dominating week in the circle for the Hilltoppers and was recognized by the league office as the Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week.
The Georgetown native went 3-0 on the week while recording a no-hitter and an NCAA-best 17-strikeout showing.
Sullivan’s 17-strikeout performance came a day after the freshman tossed a no-hitter against Evansville and less than a week after a 16-strikeout outing against Butler.
Seventeen strikeouts are the fifth-most ever recorded by a Hilltopper and the second-most ever registered in a regulation-length game. Sullivan is the only pitcher in the nation with two outings of 16 or more strikeouts.
The freshman’s no-hitter was the 13th in program history.
Sullivan earned Co-Pitcher of the Week with Louisiana Tech senior Preslee Gallaway.
Sargent, WKU men’s golf in title hunt at ECU Collegiate
Western Kentucky’s men’s golf team and redshirt senior Billy Tom Sargent are very much in contention for titles heading into the final day of East Carolina’s ECU Intercollegiate.
Sargent was in second place in the field after compiling a two-round total of 142 (69-73) on Monday at the par-72, 6,755-yard Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, N.C.
That placed him just two strokes behind the individual leader, Jacksonville’s Michael Sakane.
As a team, WKU was in third place with a two-round total of 585 (291-294), which placed them four shots behind leader Campbell (No. 42) and three shots behind second-place Jacksonville.
Both of those programs were unable to complete the second round due to darkness. Round 2 resumed at 7:30 a.m. CST on Tuesday, while the final round also began at that time.

Joiner’s 68 tied for the third-lowest single-round score in program history, a mark she also reached in the fall. She was just four strokes out of fifth with a 145 (77-68) total.
After a 5-over 77 to start Monday’s action, Joiner tallied six birdies in the second round at the par-72, 5,926-yard Jacksonville Golf and Country Club. She tied for third in the field with nine total birdies.
