Western Kentucky men’s basketball coach Rick Stansbury announced Tuesday the signing of Dalano Banton (6-foot-7, guard/forward) to a national letter of intent in the 2018 class.

“We are getting a very talented young man that has a great understanding for how to play,” Stansbury said in a news release. “He’s got great size and length for a perimeter player, but also has a great feel for how to score and how to facilitate. There’s no question he has a great future ahead of him, and we’re excited to have him as part of our program.”

Banton, who plays for Redemption Christian Academy in Northfield, Mass., was originally a member of the 2019 class but will reclassify into 2018. He played last season at MacDuffie School in Granby, Mass.

Banton – originally from Rexdale, Toronto, Canada – is averaging about 30 points per game early this season for Redemption Christian.

He’s rated a four-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports and was previously rated as the No. 93 prospect nationally in the 2019 class by Rivals, as well as the No. 99 prospect by 247Sports Composite.

247Sports Composite ranks him as the third-best player in Massachusetts in the 2019 class and the 17th-best player overall at his position.

Banton has also been a standout for multiple seasons on the Canadian National Invitational Tournament circuit in the summer with the CanAmera squad.

Banton also holds reported scholarship offers from Kansas State, Massachusetts and Minnesota.

Banton joins junior college forward Matthew Horton, JUCO guard Trevelin Queen, Class of 2018 guard Jeremiah Gambrell and Class of ’18 forward Galen Smith III as fall signees for Stansbury’s Hilltoppers.
