Hot Rods announce opening day roster

The Bowling Green Hot Rods and their parent club Tampa Bay Rays announced the Hot Rods opening day roster Monday that includes seven of the Rays’ top 30 prospects according to Baseball America, including former University of Louisville star Brendan McKay.

The third overall selection in the 2017 draft and third-best prospect in the Rays’ organization is a two-way player – a left-handed pitcher who will also see time at first base.

Joining McKay on the opening day roster is right-hander Austin Franklin – ranked as the 10th best prospect in the Tampa Bay system according to Baseball America.

The pitching staff will also include right-hander Tobias Myers – the 15th ranked Tampa Bay prospect, righty Drew Strotman – ranked No. 19, and left-hander Resly Linares – the 24th ranked Rays’ prospect.

Catcher Ronaldo Hernandez, No. 12, and infielder Vidal Brujan, No. 20, will also be part of the Hot Rods opening day roster.

The Hot Rods roster will also feature six players who previously played in Bowling Green – right-hander Orlando Romero, catcher Zac Law, infielders Jim Haley and Adrian Rondon, and outfielders Eleardo Cabrera and Emilio Gustave.

Bowling Green opens its 10th season at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, hosting Dayton (Ohio).
