Marie Garrett

Marie Garrett, 86, passed away Feb. 5, 2016, at Magnolia Village in Bowling Green. 

She was born in Allen County on Sept. 19, 1929, to the late Aubrey Woodward and the late Clarice Meador Woodward. She was retired from South Central Bell and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Eastern Star No. 128, Telephone Pioneers of America and Communication Workers of America.

Mrs. Garrett was a proud supporter of Lindsey Wilson College where for over 20 years she maintained the John C. Dorsey Endowed Scholarship in honor of her late son, John. The scholarship helps Lindsey Wilson students with dyslexia.

She is survived by her husband, Leon Garrett; three stepsons, Tommy Dorsey (Karen), Leon L. Garrett (Lorie) and Glenn R. Garrett (Kim); one foster son, Mitchell Blair; one stepdaughter, Ann Link (Mike); and two brothers, Bernie Woodward (Marsha) and Bernis Woodward (Marcia). She is also survived by several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Dorsey; one son, John C. Dorsey; and one niece, Alice Marie Woodward.

Funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at J.C. Kirby & Son, Lovers Lane chapel, with Bro. David Gifford conducting the services, and with burial in Mount Union United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
