BOWLING GREEN – Judith Kay Porter Whitson, age 76, passed away in Bowling Green, Kentucky on Tuesday, February 7, 2024. The Warren County native was born to the late Charles Alec and Hattie Mae Moltenberry Porter on April 22, 1947. Judy attended the Bowling Green Public Schools, graduating from Bowling Green High in 1965.
After working for Minit Mart Corporate Offices for several years, she pursued her dream of a teaching career at WKU where she completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees and her administration certificate. She started her teaching career at Bristow Elementary where she taught primary grades and was the curriculum coordinator. She then served as Principal of T. C. Cherry Elementary School for six years. During those years she became a facilitator for the Kentucky Writers Project and the Ruby Payne Anti-Poverty Program. She was active in the Presbyterian Church of Bowling Green from childhood.
She taught Sunday School, served as a deacon and elder, and the Clerk of the Session. She was also active in other benevolent church projects and programs, including Room at the Inn. After receiving a scholarship to complete her education from P. E. O, Chapter O, she devoted endless hours to that organization, recently serving as president for three terms and enjoying the friendships of her P. E. O. sisters.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She loved cooking, reading, and making heart-felt gifts for her loved ones. Her endless dedication and devotion to her family, friends, and church were unsurpassed. To know her was to love her.
