James R. “Lil James” Whitfield, 44, of Bowling Green, formerly of Lathonia, Ga., died Oct. 16, 2009, at the Hospice Center.
The Bowling Green native was born May 15, 1965. He was a 1988 graduate of Western Kentucky University, a 1983 graduate of Bowling Green High School and was employed by DeKalb County Social Services.
He was a member of Parkway Church of Christ. He was a son of James A. Whitfield and his wife, Hesterlene, and Barbara Boards Whitfield of Bowling Green, who survive. He was the grandson of the late Corine Wilson, Edward Boards and Violet and Willie Whitfield.
Funeral is at noon Monday at Burnam & Son Mortuary, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Other survivors include a sister, Shaye Brown and her husband, Chris, of Nashville; a stepbrother, Minister Shawn Sales and his wife, Martha, of Bowling Green; a stepsister, Shannon Sales of Bowling Green; two aunts, Mona Johnson and Jennifer Campbell, both of Nashville; four uncles, Darryl Alexander and Steve Wilson, both of Bowling Green, Norman D. Whitfield of Nebraska and Minister Carl Whitfield and his wife, Carol, of Bowling Green; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
