James Leroy Allison

James Leroy Allison, 89, of Bowling Green, died July 8, 2014, at Magnolia Village in Bowling Green.
He was born in Daviess County to the late Hezzie and Virgil O’Bryan Allison and served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, 573rd AAA Battalion, European Campaign. Leroy worked as a maintenance mechanic at General Electric for 42 1/2 years, was a longtime member of Masonville Baptist Church before moving to Bowling Green and becoming a member of the Eastwood Baptist Church, and was active in the Local 783 of the AFL-CIO. He enjoyed southern gospel music and playing the harmonica, which he learned to play in Germany during World War II. After retiring, he volunteered with RSVP through the Longfellow Center, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and cheering them on at all their sporting events.
Leroy was also preceded in death by his brother, Russell Allison, and sisters, Elsie Tipton and Roberta Allison
Survivors include his wife, Gayle Neal Allison; sons, Danny (Wanda) Allison of Owensboro, Lynn ( Vicki) Allison of Illinois City, Ill., and Tony Allison of Bowling Green; daughter, Candy (Tim) Miller of Owensboro; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Nichols of Owensboro and Shirley Gillaspie of Whitesville; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Eastwood Baptist Church, Yellow Creek Baptist Youth Ministry, Masonville Baptist Church or Hospice of South Central Kentucky.
