Expanding its ability to deliver news and video content to readers and viewers, the Daily News has added a second multimedia journalist.

Emily Zantow, a Wisconsin native who has experience with an online news service and in television, started in March producing news stories for the Daily News print and online products and video stories for the Daily News website.

She joins Jordan Smith, who was hired in October, as multimedia journalists who will help the Daily News diversify its news reporting.

Joe Imel, director of media operations at the Daily News, said the additions of Smith and Zantow are part of a natural progression for a newspaper that has served the Bowling Green area for more than 150 years.

“News is our franchise, and the next step for us is to give our readers news in a video format,” Imel said.

Zantow has the background to provide news reporting in both print and video formats. She studied journalism and Spanish at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, graduating in 2016.

In 2017, Zantow worked as a journalist for Courthouse News Service in Milwaukee. She moved to Bowling Green last year and worked part time for both Courthouse News Service and the WBKO television station.

“I am grateful and excited to join the team at the Daily News because I will be able to use both my Spanish and journalism skills,” Zantow said. “The best part about being a journalist is meeting new people and telling their stories. The way people consume journalism has been changing over the years, so adding a video aspect to the already successful print and online outlets at the Daily News will only add to that success.”

Like Zantow, Smith brings a wealth of multimedia experience to his new position.

A Hart County native, Smith worked in video production for the Bowling Green Hot Rods minor league baseball team and then at Bowling Green’s WNKY television station before joining the Daily News staff.

Smith has already started helping the Daily News expand on its long history of providing reliable news and commentary to residents of the Bowling Green area.

“I’m very familiar with the tradition here at the Daily News,” Smith said. “It’s very prominent in the community. I hope to help us adapt to current trends and enhance the reach of the newspaper by hitting a younger audience.”

The video stories produced by Smith and Zantow can be found at the bg dailynews.com website and on the newspaper’s social media platforms.
