Warren County Public Library is giving Top Gun enthusiasts the chance to meet and learn about what it is like in the skies from Top Gun pilot Capt. Jacob Vaughan at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Capitol.

“To find out a little bit beyond the Hollywood image. What is it like to be in a fighter jet? What is it like to fly the skies,” said Ashley Fowlkes, the digital content creator for WCPL.

The South Warren High School and Western Kentucky University graduate will provide insights into the fighter pilot life.

“The whole military, career and skill aspect. Learning about how his career has progressed to this point and what it is like to be an airman,” Fowlkes said. “It’ll be really neat to get to meet somebody who’s flown through the skies at such high speeds and learn how to defend and fight in one of those amazing pieces of technology, because those airplanes are complicated.”

Vaughan began with the Oklahoma National Guard in 2017. A year later he was commissioned through Total Force Officer Training School at Maxwell AFB in Alabama. In 2019 he began Euro-Nato Joint Jet Pilot Training in Texas at Sheppard AFB. This is where Vaughan gained his wings in 2020.

Vaughan moved to Bowling Green in 2009.

“We really like to introduce people to community members who have gone on to great careers and made a big name of themselves just because sometimes people don’t always know. It’s always wonderful to feature somebody in their own hometown,” Fowlkes said.

Admission to the event is free. For more information and to secure tickets visit www.capitolbg.org.
