The Historic RailPark & Train Museum is collaborating with Carriage House Vineyards in Auburn for a new fundraising effort.

The RailPark’s Curated Wine Collection includes two specialty wines, “RailPark Red,” a light-bodied cabernet sauvignon, and “Whistle Stop White,” a California Chardonnay, both bottled and produced by the vineyard and made from California-grown grapes.

RailPark Executive Director Jamie Johnson said that Don Davis, owner of Carriage House Vineyards, approached the RailPark over a year ago with the idea of creating the wines to help raise funds for the museum’s ongoing preservation efforts.

“My wife and I are fans of the RailPark building itself and thought this would be a great way to help raise money for it,” Davis said.

Davis said one of the reasons he supports the RailPark is because his family has worked in the railroad industry for several generations.

“I am a big fan of trains and have always been around them,” he said.

Plans for the project began around last July.

“It’s just taken awhile to get the ball rolling and of course, with wine, lots of things take time,” he said. “It took 15-16 months to get from an idea to the actual project.”

The wines are now available for pre-purchase at https://vinoshipper.com/shop/carriage_house_vineyards.

The consumer has the option of having the bottles delivered to their address or picking them up at the RailPark during a special pop-up style release party and tasting event from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19.

Johnson said you don’t have to pre-order a bottle to attend the event.

Bottles can also be ordered at the tasting, but Johnson suggests pre-ordering since there are only 300 bottles produced of each variety.

Lost River Pizza will be present at the event and Hilltopper Creamery will provide a charcuterie spread.

“It’s much better to sample wine with something to nibble on,” Johnson said.

She said the goal is to sell out of the 600 bottles so that more will be produced and that Davis has plans for other pop-up events at the RailPark.

The Curated Wine Collection will also be sold at Carriage House Vineyard’s satellite tasting rooms at the RailPark on select dates during the fall.
