Police: More than 2,800 fentanyl tablets seized in drug arrest

An investigation by the Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force led to the seizure Monday of more than 2,800 suspected fentanyl tablets and the arrest of a Bowling Green man.

Tyrell Whitney, 26, was arrested Monday on two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (more than 28 grams, fentanyl), a count of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (more than 28 grams, fentanyl, firearm enhanced), two counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and trafficking in marijuana (more than eight ounces but less than five pounds, firearm enhanced).

According to the drug task force, agents oversaw two covert drug buys of more than 1,000 suspected fentanyl tablets before Whitney was arrested around 5 p.m. Monday in a traffic stop on Stonebridge Lane by the Kentucky State Police Interdiction Team.

Police seized $2,308 from Whitney upon his arrest, the task force said.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for Whitney’s Moss Creek Avenue residence and seized 1,879 additional suspected fentanyl tablets, about a pound of suspected marijuana, a quantity of THC edibles, $29,426 in cash, a money counter and two handguns, according to the task force.

Whitney was arraigned Tuesday in Warren District Court and is set to return Friday for a preliminary hearing.

He is in Warren County Regional Jail under a $50,000 cash bond.
