A woman arrested after reportedly engaging Kentucky State Police troopers in a chase that began in Bowling Green had thousands of dollars of shoplifted merchandise in her car, police said.
Nimora Allurea Kincaid Chong, 44, of Rochester, New York, was arrested Thursday night by KSP at a rest stop on Interstate 65 following a high-speed chase that ended after police used a tire deflation device on her vehicle.
According to an arrest citation, KSP Post 3 troopers were dispatched to try to locate a black 2024 Toyota 4-Runner with a Massachusetts tag that had been rented Thursday morning in New York.
Police received information that Chong and a passenger in the car had been shoplifting in middle Tennessee “most of the day” and that she was the subject of multiple out-of-state arrest warrants.
After KSP learned that the vehicle was traveling north on I-65, troopers stopped the vehicle around the 25.6-mile marker around 10:17 p.m. Thursday.
KSP Trooper Wade Hughes explained the reason for the traffic stop to Chong and asked her to exit the vehicle, and Chong did not comply after multiple commands, an arrest citation said.
“Tpr. Hughes then reached inside the vehicle and grabbed (Chong’s) arm,” the citation said, going on to describe Chong shifting the vehicle into drive and fleeing from the traffic stop. “Tpr. Hughes had a hold of the operator’s arm, but let go when she quickly accelerated the vehicle.”
A chase ensued for about 35 miles that reached speeds of up to 120 mph, with the 4-Runner weaving across multiple lanes and occasionally driving with all lights turned off, the citation said.
KSP deployed stop sticks at the 58-mile marker to deflate the tires of the 4-Runner, and the vehicle traveled to a rest area two miles ahead, left the road and came to a rest in an embankment at the exit ramp, records show.
Chong claimed to not know about the warrants against her and refused to provide information about the merchandise in the car.
Police learned through investigation that the merchandise reported stolen was valued at around $4,700, Chong’s arrest citation said.
Chong was charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment (police officer), two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree fleeing or evading police, receiving stolen property valued at $1,000 to $10,000, first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations.
She was booked into Warren County Regional Jail and being held under a $50,000 cash bond, and is due Wednesday in Warren District Court for a preliminary hearing.
A passenger was taken into custody on separate charges and booked in Hart County Jail.
