Plea negotiations are ongoing after a recent court-ordered mediation session in a murder case involving a man accused of killing his daughter.

Damian Renard Bowden, 51, of Bowling Green, returned Monday afternoon to Warren Circuit Court for a pretrial conference in his criminal case.

Bowden is charged with murder, abuse of a corpse, theft by unlawful taking (more than $10,000 but less than $1 million), theft by unlawful taking (more than $1,000 but less than $10,000) and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the death of Daquanna Bowden, 30, of Bowling Green.

At the hearing, Bowden’s attorney, Eric Clark of the Department of Public Advocacy, informed Warren Circuit Judge J.B. Hines that following the mediation and the receipt of a plea offer from the Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Clark has extended a counteroffer to the prosecution.

Clark requested another pretrial conference, which Hines set for Nov. 4.

Daquanna Bowden’s body was found Sept. 9, 2022, in her father’s residence at Payton Landing Apartments on 6099 Scottsville Road.

A preliminary autopsy showed that she had been stabbed 23 times, according to prior court testimony.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office investigated the homicide, learning that Daquanna Bowden had lived in an apartment next to her father before being evicted, and that she then stayed with him.

Weeks earlier, deputies were called to the apartment regarding a domestic dispute, which led to Damian Bowden being arrested on Aug. 23, 2022, on a fourth-degree assault charge.

Court records indicate that Damian Bowden pleaded guilty to the charge and served a five-day jail sentence, being released on Aug. 27, 2022.

WCSO Detective Vedad Hadzikadunic testified during a 2022 preliminary hearing in the murder case that investigators found surveillance footage of Bowden leaving the jail on Aug. 27, 2022, and leaving the apartment in his daughter’s 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV later that day.

Damian Bowden’s cellphone pinged to cell towers at Greenwood Lane, Shive Lane and Campbell Lane on the morning of Aug. 27, and video footage captured him entering and exiting a Walmart that morning as well, the detective said.

From there, the cellphone pinged off towers in Cross Plains, Tennessee, and Nashville on the afternoon of Aug. 27.

Daquanna Bowden’s SUV was found unoccupied in Nashville on Sept. 23, 2022, and brought to Bowling Green.

WCSO detectives executing a search warrant for the vehicle found Damian Bowden’s phone, ID, apartment key, medications and wallet, as well as Daquanna Bowden’s ID, Hadzikadunic said during the 2022 hearing.

According to that warrant obtained Sept. 29, 2022, detectives seized two knives from the apartment and found Daquanna Bowden’s purse and phone there. A backpack containing about $10,000 was also found in the SUV, the warrant said.

Damian Bowden was arrested Oct. 12, 2022, at a homeless shelter in Nashville.

When he was interviewed by WCSO detectives, Bowden claimed to have been attacked by his daughter and that he stabbed her during a physical struggle and wrapped her body in a sheet.

Hadzikadunic testified in 2022 that Damian Bowden reported being upset over the condition of his apartment from the previous confrontation with his daughter.

Bowden has remained in Warren County Regional Jail since Oct. 18, 2022, where he has been held under a $1 million cash bond. No trial date has been set.
