First responders tend to five victims of a two-vehicle accident Monday at the nine-mile marker on the William Natcher Parkway.

Both northbound lanes and one southbound lane were closed to clear the wreckage.

Trooper Charles Swiney, spokesman for Kentucky State Police Post 3, said the wreck occurred when a tire blew out on a dump truck traveling on the parkway, causing the driver to lose control.

Swiney said one person was hospitalized with a broken back and four others complained of head and neck injuries.

Traffic was shut down in the northbound lane for more than an hour.
