The installation of signs at the entrance to the Stadium Park Plaza parking garage noting that there is free public parking within is getting closer to reality.
Downtown BGKY Development Coordinator Telia Butler spoke to the Warren County Downtown Economic Development Authority, owner of the garage, on Thursday about the signage. Butler said the proposed signs will advertise restaurants and office space in the building and free parking in the 855-spot parking garage.
Butler said the signage is “very important” for both locals and visitors to Bowling Green, since many do not know about the free parking or the restaurants located in the plaza.
Dan Harbison, chairman of the development authority, said there have been issues with “negative publicity” with the perceived lack of parking downtown and with those who park illegally being towed.
“We really want to draw attention to the fact that we have an 855-spot free parking garage downtown and the signage will go a long way toward doing that,” Harbison said.
Stadium Park Plaza has been managed by SKY Property Management since 2022. The garage is patrolled regularly.
Butler said the proposed sign designs will be voted on by the authority on Feb. 22.
Free parking in Bowling Green has diminished in recent years as several downtown lots are now paid parking.
There also is free public parking available at Circus Square Park and in a lot next to the Warren County Justice Center.
According to a map from Downtown BGKY, over 1,200 free parking spots are available in the downtown area.
