The Kentucky State Police has released the identities of two men killed in Sunday’s fatal collision near the 12 mile marker on I-65.

According to KSP, Alan T. Pound, 62, of Emory, Texas, was traveling southbound on I-65 in a 1985 pickup truck. Ronnie R. Mcenturff, 61, also of Emory, was his passenger.

Pound’s pickup struck the back of Franklin-Simpson Fire and Rescue’s 2008 International fire engine, which was stationary in the left lane of travel with its emergency equipment activated due to an unrelated collision farther south.

Both Pound and Mcenturff were pronounced dead at the scene by the Simpson County Coroner.

A firefighter who was inside the engine at the time of the collision was treated for minor injuries.

Franklin-Simpson Fire and Rescue Chief Leslie Goodrum said the firefighter was treated at The Medical Center at Bowling Green and has been released.

Simpson County Judge-Executive Mason Barnes wrote in a social media post Sunday that the fire engine had been totaled as a result of the wreck.

Goodrum said the truck that was hit was a tanker, and it sustained substantial damage. He said he still has two other tankers at his disposal.

Per KSP, the investigation continues and is being led by Detective Shane Foley.

The KSP wrote in a release that it would like to remind motorists to reduce their speed and move over when approaching emergency vehicles with activated lights.
