Friday’s Gallery Hop will have a distinct Halloween feel as it falls on a Friday the 13th a little more than two weeks before the holiday.

The A-Frame will present “From the Mind of John Carpenter Vol. 2” – a show inspired by the famed horror director with Bowling Green roots.

Many local artists will be showcased, including Matt Simone, Alex Smith, Matt Tullis and Chris Beckley, according to the event’s Facebook page.

At the Historic RailPark & Train Museum, the Sunny 16 Photo Club will be exhibiting “Haunting of the Rails” from 5 to 8 p.m.

Ingen Art Gallery, 410 E. 10th St., is hosting its fourth annual Halloween art show from 5 to 9 p.m.

The event showcases art inspired by Halloween, horror and the macabre from a variety of local artists of all ages, as well as select pieces from the gallery’s private collection. The event will also include a “Creepshow Theater” where patrons can enjoy snacks and refeshments while watching spooky films.

Proceeds from the Halloween art show raffle benefit art programs for Warren County Public Schools. The event is free.

In total, more than a dozen art galleries are preparing for the Gallery Hop.

The Gallery Hop allows anyone interested in the local art scene to tour a range of local galleries, many of which are in downtown Bowling Green, within easy walking distance of each other, according to Bob Love, owner of Love ART and Antiques Gallery.

Some venues may stay open later.

“I’ll be open until whenever the Gallery Hop crowd dies down,” he said.

Friday night’s event is the fourth of five planned gallery hops in 2017. The final Gallery Hop in 2017 is Dec. 1.

Rebecca Elder, manager of WKU Topper Corner, an art gallery that Western Kentucky University owns and operates, is participating in the Gallery Hop for the fourth time since it opened in September 2016.

Elder said the Gallery Hop seems to draw a “steady stream” of people interested in the local arts community to WKU Topper Corner.

“We get a lot of nice traffic through here and a chance to meet some new people and talk to them about art,” she said.

During the Gallery Hop, WKU Topper Corner will be showcasing a range of art, including photography, watercolor prints and wooden crafts like bowls and pens made by Kentucky artists, Elder said.

“The Bowling Green area has such a strong art community,” she said.

Teresa Christmas, owner of Art Matters, which will open to Gallery Hop attendees at 5:30 p.m., said the Gallery Hop is a fun event that can introduce people to the local art community.

“I think it’s fun for people,” she said. “I used to go on the gallery hop before I had a gallery.”

During the Gallery Hop, Art Matters will be showcasing the work of five local artists, including Morgan Quigley, who will be making her gallery debut, she said.

Christmas promised a colorful evening, with artwork from Waz Blankenship, who’s painted numerous rock stars on pieces of wood, and his wife K.O. Blankenship, known for her tie-dye wall hangings and quilts, on display.

The gallery hop offers the community a chance to see a wide variety of art and meet other people interested in art or who are a part of the local art scene.

“It helps people get in touch with other artists,” she said.
