A former Warren County Regional Jail deputy jailer accused of having an illicit relation with a female inmate has entered a guilty plea to one criminal count.
Aaron Bommarito, 29, of Franklin, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Warren Circuit Court to a count of first-degree wanton endangerment.
Bommarito was indicted last year on a count of third-degree sodomy and a count of first-degree official misconduct following an investigation led by Kentucky State Police into a complaint of inappropriate sexual conduct.
Warren County Jailer Stephen Harmon requested KSP investigate the complaint on April 25, 2023.
The investigation turned up illegal acts that were alleged to have occurred in September 2021, and Bommarito shortly afterward left jail employment after working three months at the facility, according to KSP.
After an indictment was returned against Bommarito in May 2023, a Warren County grand jury returned a superseding indictment later that month that added more charges.
Prior to pleading guilty, Bommarito faced four counts of third-degree sodomy and a single count of first-degree official misconduct, all stemming from alleged illegal activity between Sept. 6-14, 2021.
The plea agreement dismissed the superseding indictment against Bommarito and amended a single third-degree sodomy count down to first-degree wanton endangerment.
In court on Tuesday, Bommarito’s attorney, Alan Simpson, acknowledged that Bommarito had become involved in a relationship with a female inmate while employed as a deputy jailer, and that relationship endangered the inmate’s safety.
Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney Kori Beck Bumgarner has recommended a two-year prison sentence for Bommarito and will oppose probation for him.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Bommarito is to have no contact with the named victim and must forfeit his law enforcement certification.
Bommarito will be sentenced Nov. 12 by Warren Circuit Judge J.B. Hines.
