Daniel Davis and Mike Tedder are regulars at WhaBah Steakhouse.

“We come two or three times a month,” said Davis, of Bowling Green. “We actually enjoy the food.”

When they heard WhaBah was going to be featured in an episode of the Food Network’s “Restaurant: Impossible,” they couldn’t believe it. The network’s website at foodnetwork.com/shows/restaurant-impossible.html said the show’s host chef, Robert Irvine, helps turn around a failing restaurant in two days with $10,000. The show airs at 10 p.m. CST Wednesday on the Food Network, Time Warner channel 59.

“I can’t see anything to change,” said Tedder of Greenbrier, Tenn. “Everything is good. I can’t complain.”

The Food Network will tape an episode of “Restaurant: Impossible” on Monday and Tuesday at the restaurant at 2361 Russellville Road and is seeking people to help with the two-day renovation and to eat at the grand opening.

“WhaBah is a wonderful place, and it sounds like a great opportunity for them to update and get going again. The (Kentucky) Blues Society really likes WhaBah and holding events out there,” said Kenny Lee Smith, a blues society member. “This ties in to the (renewed) focus on their restaurant. They’re great people. It’s always good to get an update. I look forward to this.”

On Tuesday at lunchtime, about 20 people sat scattered about the restaurant, which features a large bar area, salad bar and giant indoor grill. Taped seats that had seen better days surrounded the bar. The walls were covered with assorted paraphernalia including Corvette and Budweiser items.

Customers weren’t concerned about the decor. Instead, they just wanted good food.

“I’ve been here four times. For a private-owned restaurant, it’s pretty good,” said D.J. Burden of Bowling Green.

If he could change one thing about the restaurant, it would be the way it is advertised.

“I’ve brought three or four people here to eat, and they’d never heard of it,” he said. “I know the owner (Donnie Perruquet). That’s why I know about it. He told me to check it out.”

As for the remodel, volunteers will paint, craft, do construction, remodeling, cleaning and decorating, depending on their skill set. The show is also looking for skilled contractors, electricians, plumbers, upholsters and painters to donate their time. The volunteer schedule is from 10:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Meals will be provided. You must be 18 years or older to volunteer. Any volunteers may be on camera and should wear comfortable clothing with no logos and sneakers or boots. Volunteers could work multiple shifts.

To volunteer, email Jayson at rivolunteer@shootersinc.com by 2 p.m. Friday with your preferred shift or shifts, full name, email address, cellphone number and skill set or related profession. The subject line should be FN 1101 KY VOLUNTEER. You must respond appropriately and receive a confirmation email in order to volunteer.

A grand reopening of the restaurant is at 7 p.m. Tuesday. To make reservations, call the restaurant at 270-782-6400.
