Bigfoot MiniCon coming to BG

- People check out Bigfoot research and paraphernalia in July 2018 during a presentation by the Kentucky Bigfoot Research Organization at Warren County Public Library Bob Kirby Branch.
The Warren County Public Library will put the “BG” in Bigfoot this fall as it is set to host its inaugural Bowling Green Bigfoot MiniCon on Aug. 3.
Meagan Miles, marketing manager for WCPL, said several Bigfoot events have been hosted by WCPL in the past.
“We’ve had at least four Bigfoot hunter events here, and they’ve all been really well attended,” Miles said. “I do think there’s an audience for it, for sure.”
The kickoff will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, with the VIP event “Cryptids & Cocktails.” This will happen at SoKY Marketplace and will include opportunities for Bigfoot enthusiasts to mingle with experts in the Bigfoot field and learn more about the famous cryptid.
The weekend’s main MiniCon event will be a day-long discussion from two members of the Discovery Channel’s “Expedition Bigfoot” and cryptid experts at The Capitol on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Speaking guests are “Expedition Bigfoot” stars primatologist Mireya Mayor and researcher Russell Acord, along with Idaho State University Anatomy and Anthropology Professor Jeff Meldrum and Ryan Golembeske, a cryptozoologist and Bigfoot researcher.
“Each speaker is going to give a presentation and then you would have the opportunity to ask them questions or share your experiences,” Miller said.
Guests will have another opportunity to meet the experts after the presentations are finished, with the “Beer & Bigfoot” afterparty happening back at SoKY Marketplace at 6 p.m.
Miles stated in an email to the Daily News that a “Hunt for Bigfoot in BG” art crawl will take place on Aug. 1 from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
For this event, six local artists have been given a metal cutout of Bigfoot to decorate. They will be installed around the city for the public to find.
“Each Bigfoot will be installed in a different location around town and we encourage the community to find them and tag the library on social media to win a prize,” Miles stated in the email.
An art contest will be held, too, Miles stated, with the winner receiving a free ticket to the MiniCon on Saturday. Artists are encouraged to create a unique depiction of Bigfoot that will be displayed at The Capitol or at SoKY Marketplace that weekend. The deadline for entries is July 12.
Ticket bundles are available for those who wish to attend multiple events, but tickets for the MiniCon presentations on Saturday alone are available.
