A man who was reportedly shot in the aftermath of a burglary earlier this week in Bowling Green has been captured in Tennessee.
Jessie Ray Curtis, 36, was located Thursday and arrested on a warrant charging him with first-degree burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower said Friday morning that Curtis, who received a gunshot wound in the back during the incident, was found in a Tennessee hospital, having checked himself into the emergency room.
Curtis remains in police custody in the hospital and awaits extradition to Warren County, Hightower said.
Curtis was identified as a suspect in an incident on Ella Way that was reported Monday to police.
Deputies responded that day to a report of a car crash on Murphy Road and received information soon afterward of a shooting on Ella Way, eventually learning that both events were connected.
Arrest citations lay out a narrative in which one or more men were involved in a burglary at an Ella Way residence that led to an altercation.
Jess Fitzgerald reported that two people entered his home armed and one of the intruders began to handcuff him when the altercation ensued and shots were fired, according to court records.
Fitzgerald was later arrested on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and trafficking in marijuana.
A Buick Enclave and a Chevrolet Avalanche drove away from the house, and gunshots were exchanged on Murphy Road before the Avalanche crashed, according to the sheriff’s office.
Witnesses reported that several people ran from the scene following the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
Joshua Culbreath was located by deputies canvassing the area and arrested on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Culbreath said he came to the home on Ella Way as the burglary was ongoing, got into a verbal confrontation with someone while armed with a handgun and then gunshots were exchanged before he drove off in a black Buick SUV, according to an arrest citation.
