Thomas is accused of causing the death of Mary Thomas on Jan. 9 in the couple’s home at 1128 Blue Bell Way.

According to prior court testimony, Thomas admitted to shooting his wife, but claimed to authorities that he acted in self-defense.

The couple’s daughter called 911 on the day of the incident to report receiving a phone call from Thomas in which he claimed to have shot his wife.

Deputies were dispatched to the home, and Thomas told them at first that his wife attempted to stab him, then took the gun from him and shot herself.

Terry Thomas was taken to The Medical Center after having difficulty breathing, and gave a statement to detectives there.

“He advised that he and his wife had been having problems for many years,” WCSO Detective Vedad Hadzikadunic said while testifying at a preliminary hearing January in Warren District Court. “He went into the bedroom to try to make the relationship better, and he advised she produced a handgun, a struggle occurred and then the gun went off.”

The Thomas’ daughter was interviewed over the phone and reported that Terry Thomas told her he and his wife were arguing.

“Thomas told his daughter the victim got in his face and threatened to leave him,” Hadzikadunic said. “(Thomas’ daughter) doesn’t remember the suspect telling her he was physically attacked by the victim.”

Thomas also reportedly phoned his son and gave an account of what took place that included an admission of shooting his wife, Hadzikadunic testified in January.

Police retrieved a .22 caliber handgun that was found on top of the drawer next to the bed on the side where Terry Thomas slept, and law enforcement learned eventually that the gun had been reported stolen in Florida in 2014, according to prior court testimony.

Thomas is in Warren County Regional Jail under a $1 million cash bond.
