Simpson said Yousif agreed to waive the preliminary hearing and have the case sent directly to the grand jury, which will consider an indictment.

Yousif was arrested Aug. 28 by the Bowling Green Police Department on five counts of procuring/promoting the use of a minor by electronic means, five counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor (older than 12 but younger than 18) two counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor (younger than 12) and a count of tampering with physical evidence.

The investigation began that day when city police made contact with a school counselor who reported that a student had notified her of a sexual relationship between an 11-year-old friend of hers and a 19-year-old man, later identified as Yousif.

A BGPD detective visited the mother of the 11-year-old and obtained consent from the mother to search and seize the child’s cellphone, according to a child abuse report filed by BGPD.

The child initially denied having a romantic relationship with Yousif when speaking with authorities, but later admitted to having feelings for him and sending explicit pictures and video of herself to Yousif, according to city police records.

BGPD detectives then went to Yousif’s residence to speak with him, and he initially denied behaving inappropriately with the child, an arrest citation said.

“However … he changed his story and ultimately admitted to possessing images and 2 videos of sexually explicit nature of the 11-year-old victim,” Yousif’s arrest citation said. “Yousif advised that after he had discovered … that his brother had told a lot of people about their relationship, he deleted the images and videos.”

Simpson told the Daily News that he is anticipating the production of discovery evidence by the Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

“At this point, what information I have is very preliminary, but what I do know is that the individual he was talking to was represented by herself and her mother that she was 16 years of age, and as soon as he discovered that she was not 16, he cut off all communication with her,” Simpson said.

During the investigation, Yousif gave consent for police to search his phone, and detectives discovered text messages and a sexually explicit image of another female on Yousif’s phone, with detectives learning that person was a 15-year-old girl living in Missouri.

According to an arrest citation, detectives made contact with the 15-year-old, who confirmed her identity and told police Yousif had reached out to her to request sexually explicit images.

Yousif is currently free on a $6,000 cash bond, and Warren District Judge John Brown amended the bond Wednesday at Simpson’s request to allow Yousif, a currently enrolled college student, computer access for academic purposes only.
