Haunted attractions heading to the area

On the grounds of the KOA Kampgrounds on Three Springs Road in Bowling Green sits an eerie, two-story yellow house that sits unoccupied – until tonight.
The house will become a place of horror – with mentally unstable characters running through it, chopped up limbs in the kitchen, body bags, chainsaws and more.

“If you walk through it, you will get scared, I can guarantee that,” said Paul Von-Webb, one of the house’s creators.
Several haunted attractions will populate the area and surrounding counties as Halloween nears. And While some Halloween attractions are family friendly, some are not, and The Massacre at KOA Kampgrounds is just one of those spooked-out attractions.
“We try to keep things as real as possible,” said Travis Bilbrey, one of the creators of the house. “We draw from real horrors, and the house is based on things that could really happen.”
A creation of Bowling Green-based Horror Industries, The Massacre is the fourth haunted house it has constructed. Founded in 2001 with the establishment of Halloween House, the attraction was rated No. 1 in Kentucky by Haunted Attraction Magazine in 2001. The haunted attraction is an all-indoor attraction with two levels and a basement of horror, using live actors and special effects and lighting.
“A lot of work was done out here,” Bilbrey said. “It’s a lot of intensity out here.”
“You thoroughly get your money’s worth,” Von-Webb added.

Admission to the haunted house is $15. In addition to the haunted house, the attraction also features a haunted trail, where people can ride the Hydratrek – a six-wheeled amphibious vehicle – through the woods and lake and then hike the 1/4 mile haunted trail and play haunted putt-putt golf. Von-Webb said people can do all three activities for $25 or individually – the trail is $10 and golf is $4. Proceeds from opening night will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
In Morgantown around the square, the dead will walk again and roam the basement of the Shriner’s Lodge as the Haunted Asylum United Nonprofit Team presents Night of the Living Dead.
Open from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. each Friday and Saturday in October, The Haunted Asylum will be serving up zombies who have taken over.
“We like to think we’re not like other haunted attractions,” said Darla Mueller, founder of HAUNT. “While things inside the asylum might change all the time, there is a basic theme that is followed. And there will be zombies somewhere.”
Mueller said the first haunted attraction it did had a horror movie theme, so it coordinated with movies such as “Halloween” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” She said this is third year they have been at the same location, and each year the attraction gets better.
“We’ve planned all year on this and it’s really awesome,” she said. “People won’t be expecting this this year. My crew stepped up and went above and beyond this year.”
Mueller said they will be set to scare come Friday night. She said they have a warning on the door for the younger ones, although she said they try not to cause the little children grief.
“We don’t just jump out and scream boo. It gets interesting,” she said.
Admission into the attraction is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Those who come out Halloween night will get $2 off with a canned good. All proceeds will go to benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
This year, Scottsville’s Party One Superstore, with co-sponsorships from Allen County Florist, Glasgow’s 103.7 The Point and Gillie Hyde Automotive Group, is transforming the vacant 1950s-era Scottsville hospital into a haunted attraction called The Haunted Hospital. The attraction will offer walk-through tours and patrons can buy special packages to stay the night.
The dark walk-through attraction will offer special effects such as strobe lighting and fog, and may be too scary for children.
The attraction, which is $15, will be open from 7 p.m. to midnight every Friday and Saturday night through Oct. 24, and nightly from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. starting Oct. 19 through Halloween.
