POLICE NEWS: Inmate escapes while on work release

Police are looking for information in a reported theft of a boat. Sometime late night or early morning on May 2 or 3, someone stole a 2006 Nitro 591DC boat from Bowling Green Marine, 5249 Louisville Road. The 18.7-foot boat, which along with the motor and trailer is valued at $26,000, is white with black and red stripes and was on a Nitro trailer. The boat was covered with a gray canvas and had a Mercury 175 Optimax motor on it. The KSP is investigating the theft, and authorities found a PUGS camouflage rag hat at the scene. A Warren County Regional Jail inmate escaped Tuesday while on a work release program.

Patrick Roy Walterman, 37, of Bowling Green walked away from the jail’s work release program for Class D inmates Tuesday, according to a Kentucky State Police news release.

When not at the jail, Walterman, who was serving a sentence for a parole violation, worked at the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society, and he was last seen at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt.

Walterman has a mustache and goatee and multiple tattoos, including two lightning bolt tattoos on the left side of his neck.

Arrest — Nathan P. Benore, 18, 501 Eric Ave., Apt. H59, was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of receiving stolen property valued over $300.

According to a Bowling Green Police Department arrest report, Benore had at his apartment a TV and a cell phone that had been reported stolen.

He was arrested at about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and placed in Warren County Regional Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

Arrest — Gregory L. Rich, 35, 2310 W. Jefferson Road, Louisville, was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree robbery. According to a city police report, Rich attempted to steal two TVs from Wal-Mart Supercenter, 150 Walton Ave., at about 3:30 p.m. Monday.

While running from store employees, Rich pushed a woman to the floor, injuring her back, according to the report.

He remains jailed on a $5,000 cash bond.

Arrest — Robert K. Mathewson, 22, 813 Midway Court, was arrested Monday and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a city police report, officers responded to Mathewson’s residence on a complaint of “strange odors.”

Once inside, police allegedly found several packages of marijuana totaling 74.2 grams, digital scales, rolling papers and a wallet containing $200 in cash in the residence.

Mathewson was released Tuesday on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

Burglary, theft — Someone broke into a residence in the 1300 block of Lee Drive and stole a PlayStation and Xbox video game systems, an SKS rifle and scope, two Mossberg shotguns and a pink North Face backpack between 10:45 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday, according to a city police report. A small piece of glass on the front door had been broken. Losses totaled $2,175.

Plea — Hunter Patton Vann, 39, of Glasgow pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to illegally distributing hydrocodone.

The former owner of Pharmacy Express in Glasgow, Vann admitted in U.S. District Court in Bowling Green to illegally distributing between 250 and 1,000 hydrocodone pills between August 2006 and July.

The majority of the pills were distributed to former Glasgow Police Department assistant chiefs Johnny Travis and Maxie Murray, who pleaded guilty on April 22 to conspiracy to illegally possess hydrocodone and tampering with a witness. Both officers await sentencing.

Vann, who was not named in the indictment of either officer, also admitted as part of his plea to stealing hydrocodone and codeine-based cough syrup from Pharmacy Express for his personal use, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Vann, who will be sentenced Aug. 31, could face up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and supervised release for up to three years.

Robbery — An armed man robbed Captain D’s Seafood, 1626 U.S. 31-W By-Pass, between 9:24 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. Monday, according to a city police report.

Witnesses described the man as African-American, between 6 feet and 6-feet, 2-inches tall and between 170 and 190 pounds. According to the report, the man wore dark sunglasses, a dark cap, gloves and a long-sleeve shirt or jacket with the collar pulled up.

The man pointed what witnesses described as a 9-millimeter handgun at employees shortly after entering the restaurant, handing a bag to one employee and ordering him to put money from the safe and cash register into it.

The man reportedly ordered the employees to lie on the floor, and then left the store, having also stolen a cordless phone.

Theft — Someone stole a 2001 Lincoln Town Car parked outside Bowling Green Biologicals, 410 Old Morgantown Road, between 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday, according to a city police report. The car, valued at $8,000, was found abandoned and damaged from an accident Sunday on Clay Street.

Theft — A Florida man reported that after getting a ride from Mammoth Cave National Park to Kroger, 350 U.S. 31-W By-Pass, the driver of the truck that carried him there sped off with the man’s computer still in the bed of the truck at about noon Tuesday, according to a city police report. The computer, a Sony Vaio, was valued at $1,700.

Theft — Someone stole the tailgate from a 2008 Dodge Ram parked outside Star Shine auto detail shop, 1751 Scottsville Road, Suite #2, between 7:30 p.m. Monday and 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to a city police report. Losses totaled $1,321.

Theft — Someone stole a lawn mower parked in the driveway of a residence in the 400 block of Normalview Drive between 6 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday, according to a city police report. Losses totaled $3,600.

Theft — Someone stole a Whirlpool air conditioner and an electric stove from a rental house in the 900 block of Kenton Street between May 12 and May 15, according to a city police report. Losses totaled $580.

Theft — Someone stole a purse from a car parked outside The Medical Center, 250 Park St., between 8:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Monday, according to a city police report. The purse contained $150 in cash, a bracelet and earrings, a Nikon camera, two credit cards, two debit cards, a set of keys and two rolls of 35-millimeter film. Losses totaled $700.

Theft, forgery — Someone stole an insurance check for $1,000 from a mailbox in the 400 block of Moonlite Avenue, signed it and deposited it in a bank account between midnight April 26 and 5 p.m. April 28, according to a city police report.
