1. Why do you love Bowling Green so much?

I grew up in a small rural town where nothing ever changed, the stores closed by ten p.m., and the only place to hear or play live music was at church, which I did through most of my childhood. It was a great place to live, but I always wanted more. More conveniences, more opportunities, more action.

Bowling Green is still a small town, but because of Western, the population is ever-changing. New people and new ideas are always flowing through, so there’s a sense of possibility in the air. I love that Bowling Green draws creative, eccentric people who make you see the world a little differently, and always have a story to tell.

I love all the old houses in the downtown area, and the festivals on the square. And I love the fact that Edgar Cayce used to live here.

2. The state of local music in Bowling Green (clubs, bands, etc.)…your thoughts.

I think that Bowling Green will always have a strong music community due to its location, not just because of its proximity to Nashville, but because music has always been important to people in this region.

Whether its gospel, country, or rock-and-roll, the musicians here play because they want and need to play, and the fans have the same desire to hear what they have created. Most of the bands I know play original music, and several of my friends are involved in two and three projects, each of which differ in style and sound. The musicians, the fans, and the venue workers involved in the BG music scene are very much like a family, caring and supportive of one another not just on Friday nights, but in our everyday lives. For this reason alone I would feel positive about the state of local music in Bowling Green, and I am proud to be a part of it.

3. If you were a superhero; who would you be and why??

The first and only superhero I ever wanted to be was Mighty Mouse. I don’t know if he counts, but he was a superhero to me. I liked that he was little, but

Mighty. And he always saved the day.

4. What does your daughter think of your musician friends?

I don’t think Aeryn thinks of my musician friends as “musicians.” She has grown up around music, and she’s used to my being in a band, and my friends showing up with guitars. Plus, she’s a teenager, so nothing really impresses her these days. She is a fan of the Space Dinosaurs, and she’s close to a few of my long-time musician friends like Jon Spence, and the other members of Stereotype.writer. But she’d rather read than watch us play.

5. Have you every thought of forming an all-girl band?

I have ideas for an all-girl band, but forming any band is hard enough without the limitations of gender, particularly when there are so few female musicians who perform, and fewer still who share my

vision: I want candid lyrics and loud guitars, more Joan Jett and less Indigo Girls. Whenever I explain the requirements, an amazing number of male musicians offer to dress like women just to be in it, which

brings me back to the idea of just starting a band.

6. What is the perfect sundae or Sunday?

The perfect sundae is butterscotch, with whipped cream and a cherry on top. The perfect Sunday consists of a pot of coffee, the Sunday crossword puzzle, Barren River Breakdown on the radio, and my boyfriend in close proximity to me.

7. Why do girls have so many pairs of shoes?

Its simple, really. When we get rid of a pair of shoes, the perfect outfit will come along, and we’ll wish we had kept them. Then we have to buy more, to replace the ones we thought we’d never wear. And whenever we buy a new outfit, of course we have to have shoes to match. But I can only speak for myself; my closet is full of shoes that I will probably never wear.
