Western Kentucky dropped a midweek matchup to Kentucky 9-1 on Tuesday in Lexington.
WKU (21-19) got on the scoreboard in the second inning thanks to a single from reigning CUSA Freshman of the Week Kennedy Stinson, but Kentucky (27-17) scored nine runs off four home runs and a single to take the game.
Both sides were scoreless through the first, but Kentucky quickly put a run on the board in the bottom of the second inning.
In the top of the third, Stinson answered right back as her single scored Charlotte Herron who reached earlier with a walk.
Kentucky went on to hit home runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings.
The Hilltoppers were held to just three hits. Freshman Katie Murphy tallied a double for the Tops’ lone extra-base hit.
WKU returns home for the first time in eight games, hosting New Mexico State this weekend for a Conference USA series. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the WKU Softball Complex.
