Bowling Green native Michael Darrell-Hicks got his first call to The Show on Sunday.

Darrell-Hicks was called up by the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday from Triple-A Salt Lake City, where the right-handed relief pitcher began the season. Darrell-Hicks did not pitch in the Angels’ 6-2 home win against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday in Anaheim, California.

A 2016 graduate of South Warren High School, Darrell-Hicks started his college career at Western Kentucky and spent five productive but injury-plagued seasons with the program before transferring to Jacksonville University for his final season.

Despite a breakout season with the Dolphins after tallying a 4.13 earned run average with 82 strikeouts in 72 innings, Darrell-Hicks did not get selected in the 2022 MLB Draft. The Angels signed him to a free-agent deal, and after initially struggling Darrell-Hicks began a steady rise through the organization.

Darrell-Hicks firmly put himself on the Angel’s radar after posting a 2.60 ERA with 69 strikeouts and 13 walks in 62 1/3 innings across Double-A Rocket City and Triple-A Salt Lake in 2024.

To start the season at Salt Lake, Darrell-Hicks had posted a 4.13 ERA with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. He was added to the Angels’ 40-man roster when fellow Angels’ minor leaguer Hans Crouse went down with an injury last week, then got his MLB call up when reliever Caden Dana was optioned to Salt Lake after a three-inning stint on Saturday.
