Western Kentucky women’s golf junior Sydney Hackett finished in second place at the Coach Mo Classic on Tuesday, tallying a 2-under par 214 for the tournament to finish just one stroke off medalist honors at St. John’s Golf Club in St. Augustine, Florida.

As a team, the Lady Tops finished tied for fourth, improving their standing by one spot over the final round.

Despite playing without senior Catie Craig, who tees it up on Wednesday at the prestigious Augusta National Women’s Amateur, WKU managed its sixth top-five finish as a team through nine events this season.

Hackett’s runner-up finish was her best finish of the season. Her 2-under 214 was her best scoring over 54 holes this season, as well. Overall for Hackett, the event marked her third top-three finish of the spring and her fifth top-10 mark this season.

WKU led the field in par 5-scoring at 4-under. The Lady Tops tallied 174 pars, second-most in the field, and had two eagles – both on the par 5 eighth hole (Averi Cline, round two; Julia Zigrossi, round three).

For Zigrossi, the tie for 16th was her second-best finish of the season and second consecutive top-20 result. She finished tied for 14th at the UNF Collegiate last time out.

Hackett played the par 4s at 1-over, tied for second-best in the field. She was also 3-under on the par 5s, tied for fourth. Her 11 birdies were also tied for second in the 90-player tournament.

The Lady Tops close the regular season schedule next Monday at Tennessee’s 36-hole Spring Challenge. After that, WKU heads to the Conference USA Championships in St. Augustine, Florida, April 14-16.

Craig plays at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur starting Wednesday. The first two rounds are at Champions Retreat Golf Club (live coverage on GOLF Channel from 12:30-2:30 p.m. CT) with the final round on Saturday at Augusta National Golf Club for the Top 30 (live coverage on NBC).
