Raiders’ Escalera hurls complete-game shutout

Warren East senior starting pitcher Matthew Escalera fired a complete-game shutout to lead the Raiders to a 1-0 baseball win against visiting Muhlenberg County on Thursday.
Escalera allowed no runs off two hits and two walks over seven innings to earn the win. He struck out eight batters.
Dane Parsley went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to pace the Raiders’ offense. Kavien Hinton added a 2-for-3 night in the win.
Warren East (1-1) was slated to visit Christian County on Friday.
Barren County 9, Bowling Green 6
Sutton Hyde went 3-for-5 with a home run, a pair of doubles and five RBIs to lead visiting Barren County to a 9-6 win in eight innings against Bowling Green on Thursday.
Gavin Coffey added a 2-for-4 outing with a solo home run and two runs scored, Jackson Reece went 2-for-4, Jaxon Vincent tallied a double and an RBI, and Aiden Keeney and Jordan Harris each had an RBI for the Trojans.
Hyde earned the win in relief, allowing no hits or runs over 1 2/3 innings while striking out two.
Barren County (1-1) was slated to visit Russell County on Friday.
Evan Schallert went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for the host Purples. Harrison Yates was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, Andru Jones went 2-for-4 and scored twice, and Landon Gilbert added an RBI.
Bowling Green (0-1) is set to face Apollo and then Highlands in the Greenwood High School Hot Rods Classic on Saturday at Bowling Green Ballpark.
Franklin-Simpson 4, Butler County 3
Brady Delk went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to boost homestanding Franklin-Simpson to a 4-3 win against Butler County on Thursday.
Liam Heinze was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and Carson Kelley tallied an RBI for the Wildcats in the win.
Braylon Turner earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Starting pitcher Jordan Brandon went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three unearned runs while striking out six.
Franklin-Simpson (2-1) was slated to host Glasgow on Friday.
Butler County (1-2) visits Allen County-Scottsville on Saturday.
Softball
Franklin-Simpson 10, Bowling Green 0
Lilly Ferguson and Kloie Smith each went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to spark visiting Franklin-Simpson to a 10-0 win in five innings against Bowling Green on Thursday.
Jasmine Grover was 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI for the Lady Wildcats. Kyleigh Scott added a double and an RBI.
Rebecca Luttrell pitched five shutout innings for the win.
Franklin-Simpson (2-1) hosts Muhlenberg County and then Cumberland County on Saturday.
Amparo DeJesus, Addison Darnall and Lola Kington had hits for Bowling Green (1-1), which was set to host Hopkins County Central on Friday.
Girls’ Lacrosse
South Warren 6, Central Hardin 2
Ida Stewart and Lauren Hamilton scored two goals apiece as visiting South Warren earned a 6-2 win against Central Hardin on Thursday.
Kolbe Wyrick and Honette Irakiza added one goal each, with Maddie Cornell, Kendal Allison and Jordynn Brooks each tallying an assist for the Spartans.
Goalkeeper Lilia Compton finished with 10 saves for South Warren (4-1), which takes on Sayre and then host Great Crossing on Saturday.
