Ole Miss deals 9-5 softball loss to Hilltoppers

Western Kentucky’s softball team dropped its Tuesday game against Ole Miss, 9-5, at the WKU Softball Complex.
With the loss, the Hilltoppers fall to 14-9 overall and 1-2 in Conference USA play.
The Rebels (21-4 overall, 2-1 SEC) jumped out to a quick lead in Bowling Green, scoring eight total runs across the first two innings.
In the home half of the third, WKU sophomore infielder Annie White sent a sacrifice fly to right field to score sophomore outfielder Kendle White, who reached earlier with a single.
WKU sophomore Maci Masters connected for a two-run home run, scoring freshman infielder Charlotte Herron. The homer was the fifth of the season for Masters.
After the Rebels added another run to bring the score to 9-3, the Hilltoppers scored another two in the bottom of the fourth.
With the bases loaded, White earned her 14th RBI of the season with a single to center that scored senior catcher Randi Drinnon.
Herron earned an RBI with a sacrifice fly to right field to score junior outfielder Kaytlan Kemp.
Ole Miss was able to keep WKU at bay for the remainder of the game.
Masters and White led with a team-high two hits each for the Hilltoppers.
WKU junior pitcher Maddy Wood finished the night with three strikeouts, working 6 1/3 innings in relief.
WKU will host Conference USA rival Liberty this weekend in a three-game series beginning on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
