‘Fifth Great Awakening’ slated for Russellville

The Fifth Great Awakening, a free three-night revival presented by local churches and the 2025 Awakening Committee, will take place March 31-April 2 at the Logan County Ag Arena in Russellville.
The event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. each night and will include preaching, gospel singing, a free food truck meal for the first 500 people each night and a free nightly raffle.
Connor McColpin, pastor of Whipporwill Baptist Church in Russellville, said – including his church – there are about 20 churches on board helping out.
Taking the revival to a different location other than the church is something McColpin is looking forward to.
“We are leaving the church and going somewhere we normally don’t go,” McColpin said. “It’s good to get out of our comfort zone and experience something different. When you build a church, you build walls that keep people in and out. Jesus said to his disciples ‘go and take this gospel to the world.’ ”
The event’s organizers have rented out 1,000 chairs at the 1,800-seat facility.
“We are expected to sell out fast,” he said.
McColpin said plans for the revival have been in the works for a while, but finding a way to fund it was difficult.
“Last August, we had a crusade in the same building,” he said. “We were planning on having this event in the spring, but we needed $23,000. We just didn’t have the money. So, we prayed for it.”
Plans were once again back on when a generous donor sent a $25,000 check in the mail to fund the event.
“God opened the door even wider,” he said. “God is in this and wants this to happen.”
With a theme of “Are You Awake?”, the three-night event will begin March 31 with singing by the Dove Award-winning group The Perrys and preaching by Bro. Mike Graham.
Bro. Lee Fishback and Bro. Allen Woodard will speak on April 1, with local choirs performing.
“Some of the best singers are not famous,” McColpin said. “We are looking forward to hearing from these amazing local choirs.”
He said each of Tuesday’s speakers will appeal to everyone.
“One is upbeat and one is laid back,” he said. “We are covering all the bases here – from extroverts, introverts and everybody in between.”
The McKamey Legacy will perform on April 2 and Bro. Phillip Alexander will speak.
At the beginning of each night, guests will receive vouchers and questionnaires. Faith counselors will be available to help fill out the questionnaires.
The questionnaires will be used at the conclusion of each night for a raffle, with prizes that include a deer stand, Genesis bows and Ulta, Lane Bryant and Kohl’s gift cards.
Toys will also be given away for free.
“This is an awakening of the America you grew up with and we we are hoping to take this well beyond the days we are funding,” McColpin said.
