Questions for Rep. Guthrie

Dear Congressman Guthrie:
I’ve called your office several times recently, but I haven’t received a reply. So, I thought I’d try and reach you via this letter to the editor.
What I’m trying to understand is: why aren’t you representing your actual constituents these days? Within your congressional district, you have a leading state research university, a beloved national park, and two electric battery plants under construction expected to bring thousands of jobs to our area. You also have a significant number of people in your district who receive Medicaid and depend on Social Security.
If I were you, I’d be pretty burned up that the new administration is cutting NIH funding, firing National Park workers, and freezing funding for the Inflation Reduction Act, which brought us these new battery plants. Instead, we haven’t heard a peep from you since this whole Musk mess started. What we have been hearing is that you’re leading the committee proposing to cut Medicaid so that the wealthiest can receive even more tax cuts. But that can’t be right. Right?
Last I checked, more than 20% of Warren County residents receive Medicaid and there’s only one billionaire living in Kentucky (and not in your district). So, what gives?
Like most of your constituents, I just want to live in a safe, affordable community with good paying jobs and efficient government services that lift people up. I’m concerned that you spend so much time in DC that you forgot what your actual constituents need and expect from you. Any plans for a town hall soon?
We’re still here, and we’d really like to hear what you’re doing to advocate for us during these very troubling times.
