John Williams will serve in a new leadership role in the Warren County Republican Party, after he was confirmed as the party’s chair by a 95-10 margin Saturday.

Williams previously served as interim chair of the party. He said he was “honored” to take on the role fully, which was previously filled by Tim Gilliam. Gilliam is now serving as party treasurer, Williams said.

“I’ve been a registered Republican since I was 18 and voted in every race,” Williams told the Daily News. “Granted, I have a lot to learn … but honored would be the first word I would say.”

Williams, who serves as a detective on the Bowling Green/Warren County Drug Task Force and an administrator of the rocket docket program with the Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney, ran unsuccessfully for a position on the Bowling Green City Commission last election.

Since the county party has not had a full meeting yet with new leadership, Williams declined to state what specific actions he is prioritizing.

“I don’t want anybody thinking John Williams is making decisions,” he said. “I want to have a group effort.”

However, he did say a focus is expanding the party locally. He said at the party’s last reorganization, around 50 members attended. This time, the number was up to around 350.

“My goal is to get every Republican voice and voter in Warren County involved in some way or fashion,” he said. “That would be a huge thing.”

Warren County’s Democratic Party will also soon reorganize. Party members told the Daily News their reorganization is currently ongoing and is expected to wrap up later this year.
