ETOILE – William David Rutledge passed away on February 15, 2025. David was born on July 6, 1965 to Billy and Linda Rutledge in Scottsville, KY. He was a fun-loving child who loved playing with his brother and cousins in their neighborhood in Colonial Manor.
He graduated from Allen County High where he enjoyed playing saxophone in the band and then attended Western Kentucky University. Among several jobs that he enjoyed over the years, his favorite was his time in business with Billy and Stephen at D&S Wholesale and later at Office Solutions. David loved Jesus, and Jesus saved David’s soul as a teenage boy.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church. David and Amy fell in love and were married on September 9, 2001 at Barren River State Park and were elated to start their life together in Etoile, KY with his wonderful children Elizabeth and David Jr. Nine years later, David and Amy were blessed with Evan and were so proud to watch him grow into such a fun and caring young man.
David was so proud that Elizabeth found love with Brian and was blessed with Alice while David Jr. fell in love with Morgan and was blessed with Eli and Emma. David and Amy shared the ups and downs of life together and enjoyed everyday talks and hugs just as much as the many travels and holidays they shared. With God’s help their love grew deeper as the years passed.
David always had an immense love and protective nature for his family. He had a special knack for anticipating their needs and making sure everyone was always taken care of. He instilled in us the importance of family and often reminded us that we must always there for one another. He was generous and caring and always took time to be with friends and family. David loved talking about everything and nothing and found joy in the simple pleasure of running across someone he knew to catch up. He loved to travel, relax at the beach, listen to good music and enjoy all vehicles large and small and would likely show up with a Hot Wheel and sit and play.
He lived in the moment and reminded us to live life to the fullest. Everyone left feeling loved and wanted after seeing David. David is survived by his wife Amy Evans Rutledge and son Evan Rutledge of Etoile, KY, Elizabeth Rutledge Alsdorf and her husband Brian of Bowling Green and David Rutledge, Jr and his wife Morgan of Scottsville. He has three precious grandchildren Eli Rutledge (age 4), Alice Alsdorf (age 3) and Emma Rutledge (age 2).
He is survived by his mother Linda Rutledge of Scottsville and was preceded in death by his father William N. Rutledge. He is also survived by his brother Stephen Rutledge (and wife Laura) and his nephew Barton Rutledge of Scottsville. He is also survived by his mother-in- law Barbara Evans of Etoile, KY and was preceded in death by his father-in-law Kenneth Richard Evans. His brother-in-law Casey Evans (and wife Sherry) of Etoile, KY survive as well.
The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate David’s life with them at visitation on Friday, February 21 from 12:00 – 7:00 p.m. at T.W. Crow & Son in Scottsville, KY.
Funeral services will be held at T.W. Crow and Son on Saturday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Caney Fork Cemetery in Etoile, KY.
