Western Kentucky’s women’s tennis team defeated Northern Kentucky 7-0 on Friday at the Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills.

The Lady Toppers improved to 4-1 this season and 1-0 in road matches.

“It was good to start off with a road win on this trip,” WKU tennis coach Greg Davis said in a news release. “We hadn’t won before at NKU during my seven years, so it was good to get a win here.”

WKU’s 4-1 start is the second-best start to a season through five matches under Davis. The Lady Toppers started the 2022 season with five consecutive wins.

WKU claimed the doubles point for the fourth time in five matches this season. The Lady Toppers’ duo of Emily Schut and Mia Miranda improved to 4-1 in doubles play this season.

Rachel Hermanova’s singles win for the Lady Toppers was the 53rd of her career and extends her program record. Sofia Blanco is now tied for second in program history in singles wins with 44. Hermanova and Blanco are now both 4-1 this season in singles play.

Mariana Zegada’s singles win was the 26th of her WKU career. She is now in sole possession of ninth place on WKU’s career singles wins list.

Schut improved to 4-0 in singles as a Lady Topper. Friday’s win was the first for Schut at the No. 5 singles position.

Miranda improved to 2-2 in singles play with her win Friday and has now won back-to-back singles matches.

The Lady Toppers will wrap up their first road trip of the season with a 12:30 p.m. CT match against Cincinnati on Saturday at the Western Athletic Club.
