Western Kentucky sophomore guard Jack Edelen will not travel with the team for a pair of road games this week following his early-morning arrest Sunday on charges related to driving under the influence.
Edelen, 20, was arrested by the Bowling Green Police Department on Sunday morning and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and failure to provide proof of insurance.
WKU athletics released a statement following Edelen’s arrest.
“We are aware of the situation regarding Jack Edelen and are addressing it internally,” the statement read. “WKU will have no further comment at this time.”
On Tuesday, WKU men’s basketball coach Hank Plona said Edelen will not be with the team for Thursday’s game at Kennesaw State or Saturday’s road matchup at Jacksonville State. Both are Conference USA games.
“Obviously released a statement on that situation, so I’ll support that,” Plona said during Tuesday’s weekly news conference. ” … I don’t think that decision and mistake is resembling who Jack is as a person so we’ll support him through this. He will not travel with us this week on this road trip.”
Edelen, a Louisville native in his second season at WKU, has seen regular time this season as a reserve for the Hilltoppers. Edelen has played in 19 of the Tops’ 22 games, with one start, and has averaged 2.5 points per game.
