GLASGOW — The mound behind Hank Royse Stadium was filled with the smell of hamburgers, hotdogs and the sound of tailgaters prior to the game between Glasgow and Barren County.

The celebration of the rivalry could be felt throughout the area – but only Barren County would be left celebrating when the game was over.

The Trojans’ offense came to life in the second half to overcome a 13-point deficit to pull out a 14-13 fourth-quarter win Friday.

Trojan running back Tim Sneed punched in a 15-yard touchdown run on a fourth down play with just 48.9 seconds to go. Caleb Bogard added the extra point to give Barren County the one point lead.

“It was the best feeling in the world,” Sneed said. “My teammates blocked for me and executed perfectly and it worked.”

Glasgow (0-3) had one last drive to retake the lead and the Scotties marched into the redzone, but were unable to score.

Glasgow got the ball its own 31-yard line following Sneed’s score and after a 25-yard pass from Trey Alexander to Tavion Parrish, Glasgow was in Trojan territory. Following the play, Barren County (1-2) was penalized for 15-yards on a personal foul call on an incident that happened on the Glasgow sideline.

The Scotties had a chance for a 38-yard field goal to win the game, but the kick missed.

“My heart stopped right before that play,” Sneed said. “We were holding our breath. I was speechless.”

The field goal attempt was the closest that Glasgow had gotten during the second half after scoring 13 points in the first two quarters.

The Trojans were shut out by Glasgow the first half, but were able to turn it up during the second half. Barren County, which had only 76 yards of offense, scored two touchdowns and finished the game with 252 yards.

The Trojans’ first score came with 4:10 left to play in the third quarter as quarterback Gill Thomas threw a 25-yard pass to Colby Long, cutting Glasgow’s lead to 13-7.

The second score, on Sneed’s run, capped the longest drive of the night for Barren County, an 11-play march that covered 66 yards – and included two fourth-down conversions.

“We had some rough plays,” Sneed said. “But we kept our heads up and just kept driving and driving and finally punched one in. We knew we couldn’t get down on ourselves. We’ve been doing that, but we didn’t this game.”

Barren County’s defense helped the struggling offense survive the first half, because the Scotties owned the time of possession. Glasgow had the ball for nearly 16 minutes, while Barren County had it for less than nine.

Glasgow got its first touchdown on the game’s opening drive. The Scotties marched 68 yards in nine plays, capped with a Parrish 20-yard touchdown run. Parrish finished the game with 58 yards on 22 carries.

The Scotties’ second score came with only 40 seconds left to play in the first half as Blake Perkins’ 15-yard run into the end zone gave Glasgow a 13-0 lead. The extra point was blocked and kept the lead at 13.
