Western Kentucky graduate senior Sunskrithi Damera earned a singles victory against Austin Peay's Elena Thiel during Friday's APSU Fall Tournament held at the Warren County Tennis Facility at Michael O. Buchanon Park.

Western Kentucky’s women’s tennis team kicked off the fall schedule with the first day of the APSU Fall Tournament on Friday at the Warren County Tennis Facility at Michael O. Buchanon Park.

The Lady Toppers faced the host, Austin Peay, in the first day of the event, which was moved to Bowling Green instead of Clarksville, Tennessee, for Friday’s matches due to inclement weather. In doubles, WKU newcomers Carolina Chiatti and Elizabeth Sobieski picked up a win, and in singles, Rachel Hermanova, Sofia Blanco, Sunskrithi Damera and Mia Miranda all came away victorious.

“We competed well today,” WKU coach Greg Davis said in a news release. “We are looking to play more aggressively in our doubles as well as singles on day two of the tournament. I thought we had some very good performances in singles from Rachel and Sofia today.”

The APSU Fall Tournament will continue on Saturday at the Warren County Tennis Facility at Michael O. Buchanon Park. The Lady Toppers are scheduled to face Alabama A&M and Murray State in singles, and are set to go up against Murray State, Alabama A&M and Cumberland in doubles action.
