On Aug. 27, 1921, the Daily News reported on a dramatic elopement, complete with car chase.
A local couple – Frances Crowell and R. R. Polslum – left at 10 p.m. the previous night and headed to Portland Tennessee. About 45 minutes later, the bride’s mother went to her daughter’s work place, only to be told about the elopement.
She jumped in a car and sped to Tennessee but thought the couple would be heading for Mitchellsville, Tennessee, and failed to stop the elopement. The pair were married at 1:15 a.m. and headed back to Bowling Green afterward, to many congratulations from their friends.
